I have been hiding, being invisible, not really putting myself out there, pretending that the excuses I was telling myself were good enough. That how could I do this or do that, I have been settling, sure, I have created success, shit, I have created a lot of success, and I have been hiding that success for the past 4+ months now and freaking hiding out.
Telling myself, I don’t want to work with anymore 1:1 clients, I don’t have enough time, the kids are going to be home from school soon for the summer and I want to spend time with them, I can’t take on any 1:1 clients, how can I do that if they are playing in the background, how can I launch the membership mastermind program I want when the kids will be playing in the background, how can I show up and be professional and polished and act like I have my shit together and show up a certain way.
Guess what, these are all freaking excuses, big excuses, some of them valid but the truth is, the real truth is, they are all BS. Because, I have built this business over the last 10 years with my small kids at home, my clients know that, and just because they may be playing in the background, and are being watched by someone else that they don’t come into my office when I am on the phone with clients, or making a video, or doing a live stream, or on a group coaching call and you know what, I don’t want to go somewhere else to work, I don’t want to put my kids summer school, I only work about 15 hours a week, it’s not going to serve them and it’s not going to serve me.
They want to be there with me, I want them to be there by my side with me, this is why I built this, just because I have kids doesn’t mean I have to stop what I am doing and stop growing my business, and more importantly, stop serving my clients, my tribe. How freaking selfish of me to even think so, not that I was doing it on purpose, really I thought it was serving you, that’s the trick of our subconscious mind, crazy how that works right, and we convince ourselves of that?
You know what the majority of my clients, they have kids, 99.9{9426e48ae5c3b3ab02332dd167966d9e9ea7aa41d6d2b8540a0550b4f9308632} of clients work from home, and guess what, I am not going to apologize for having kids or if they might be in the background, they are taken care of, and from time to time yes, they do wander into my office, or they do want to hang out with me in my office, and if someone doesn’t like that, then guess what, that someone is not my client.
Do I take time off to be with my kids, yes of course I do, honestly most weeks I work 15 hours a week or less, but with the summer coming and the kids going to be home, I have noticed I have been holding myself back, not allowing myself to go all in. And it’s not fair, it’s not fair to me, it’s not fair to them and it’s not fair to my clients, or to my tribe.
My tribe, my clients, they love and respect that I have small kids, and my choices to have them stay home with me instead of sending them off to camp where they do not want to go. I am showing them by example that you can create a business that you love that totally supports you, no matter what that looks like.
So, I am calling myself out, no more hiding, no more pretending that I can’t push myself any further because, what if when the kids are home this summer and they come into the office while I am working. I am still going to be working about 15 hours a week, I love my clients, I love my tribe and I love my kids, they all light me and give meaning and depth to my life, and just because my kids may be in the background during those 15 hours that I am working a week, doesn’t mean I am not giving it my all to my clients. I overdeliver to my clients, I show up, I am there for them when they need me and none of that changes because I also have a life.
I hope that you can learn something for this as well, in fact, I am sure you can, because no matter how far along we get, no matter what level we are at, there is always another layer, another level to reach for.
I have reignited that passion, that flame inside of me, I have called BS on all the excuses, some of which I mentioned above and others I haven’t mentioned and it’s time for you to do the same too, that is if what you want is to uplevel your life and your biz. The choice is yours always. For example, are you afraid to shine your light too bright because of what people may think, your family, your friends, your clients, people who don’t know you? I know I get like this too, in fact, to be totally transparent, this was another thing that up until now I have been allowing to hold me back, but no longer, because I know it’s an excuse, it’s a self sabotage.
