Setting goals is essential to achieving success in business and in life. You should have long and short term goals to help with motivation and focus, this allows you to plan and organize your resources and your time so that you can reach your goals.
When you set clearly defined short and term and long term goals you will be able to measure your progress and achieve personal satisfaction once you have successfully met your goals. Charting your progress will also enable you to actually see the stages of completion leading to the actual realization of your goals. This eliminates the feeling of a long and pointless grind towards achieving your goal. Your self-confidence and level of competence will also improve as you will be more aware of your capabilities as you complete or achieve your goals.
The basics of goal settings will involve deciding what you really want to do and what short term and long term goals you need to achieve it. Then you have to break down goals into the smaller and manageable targets that you must complete in your way to achieving your lifetime targets. Once you have your list waste no time in tackling your goals.
A good way to have a manageable list is to have a daily and weekly set of goals. By doing this you will be always in the position of going towards you life plan goals. Everyday will give you the opportunity to fulfill a certain goal giving you the feeling of accomplishment.
The basics of goal settings should not be so difficult once you get to be familiar with them.

Hello from a fellow UBC participant. Currently my goal is to complete the challenge. 🙂 Best of luck on your journey.
Thanks Valerie and best of luck to you as well!
Oh, yes, goals 🙂 I remember those! In all seriousness, I have to do daily and weekly. Anything beyond that, I just drive myself nuts and go into overwhelm. I have the bigger picture of where I’m going laid out, so I just assign myself tasks. I see each day as a new day, just planting the seeds for my future success and happiness. One of my teachers said that a goal is desirable, but it’s your overriding vision that is most inspiring usually 😉
I find that I always want to set goals that are way too lofty. They can be achieved in a few months but not a day or two. I have to be careful in my goal setting for my freelance writing business, my own writing, my homeschooling, and so on. I like the idea of daily goals – I usually only set weekly or monthly.
Thanks for your comment Crystal. I used to have and sometimes still do have trouble with that which is why I started setting these “lighter” goals so to speak. I also try and make a point of 3 goals for the week that I call “if nothing else” goals for things that I can accomplish, no matter how small, to try and get some things off my plate and feel a sense of accomplishment.
